Choosing fabric: You need a collection that offers different values of color. When choosing and sorting colors, the magic number is 5. You need 5 colors in each grouping and each grouping will make 3 blocks. Have as many different groupings as you like and repeat color groupings as you like. A good start is to have 25 different fat quarters or quarter yard cuts that look like a Cotton Rainbow.

This fabulous star quilt is a new technique and lots of fun to make. The star looks like it's floating on a sea of colored stripes. The pattern includes directions to make a secondary smaller star.
Choosing fabric: Our sample is in black and white but any combination of fabric will work just as well. Just be sure the accent fabric for the star will boldly stand out from the strips. We've seen the strips in soft purple with deep dark purple for the stars. Very effective. We've also completed it in Thimbleberries browns with a burgundy star. Also very lovely.
Number of 2½" strips: You need 20 strips for a Crib, 45 for a Lap, 60 for a Twin, 80 for a Queen and 125 for a King. You can use fat quarters, but you have to be sure they are at minimum 21 inches in length. If they aren't, you will need additional fabric.
