Karen DuMont is a quilter, dough artist and avid gardener when time allows. She started designing dough ornaments in 1972 as a hobby shortly after her first son was born. As the family grew and their needs changed she turned her hobby into a fulltime business that allowed her to stay at home while raising their children.
In 1992 the family relocated from St. Louis, MO to Richmond, VA. Several years later Karen found a quilt shop where she took a few classes and discovered all kinds of new friends and a passion for fabric. She started designing whimsical, bright appliqué quilts for family members and was encouraged by friends to put her designs into patterns. Karen enjoys teaching where she can share her knowledge and skills with all levels of quilters. She loves doing trunk shows for quilt guilds and has stories to share for most of her designs.
In 2008 Karen starting doing freelance work for Harris Publishing, publishers of QUILT, QUICK QUILTS and QUILT ALMANAC magazines. She had more than a dozen quilts featured and appeared on four covers.
Like she did with her dough art, Karen has turned another hobby into a fulltime business! Her ornaments can still be purchased through her website, www.adoughables.com but she seems to be spending more time these days behind her sewing machine rather than in her kitchen baking ornaments!!
